Cleaning Crew

Good view of what the finished wall looks like when it's wet. The masons were cleaning it today until they can get more blocks delivered.

Also met with the electricians, plumber, and hvac guys and we have a bunch of homework to do this week. Hoping to get them started as soon as the house is dried-in next week. We are currently about a month behind schedule.

Better Late Than Never

A view of one of the walls that were completed. Looks like the masons went into overdrive and made up for some lost time.

Too bad they ran out of cmu blocks and had to special order some more to finish the other side. Latest estimates are that they won't get them until next Monday. Hopefully they can be done by the 5th and we can finally move forward.

CMU Approach

A view of the cmu block wall as you approach the front entry of the house. The space between the two walls will be filled with windows.

More Wall Please

The masons seem to be moving at a good pace. Just two days in and they're almost at 10 feet. Compare this to the post labeled Stage 1 that I made just a few days ago.

On an unrelated note, when I took this picture yesterday, there was some guy I've never seen before lurking around and introduced himself as one of our neighbors. I guess as the house becomes more prominent from the street, this is going to start being more of an issue.

CMU Wall

The masons finally made some headway into the cmu wall today. 4 feet down, 30 more to go.

See-Thru Living Room

We had a nice surprise today when we saw most of the living room windows were installed. These 10 foot tall windows comprise all 3 sides of the room and frame the fireplace.

CMU Close Up

Detail of the CMU block showing the polished face. Each block is polished on both sides to make them smooth to the touch and bring out the color of the aggregate giving them a clean finished look.

Stage 1

The masons have set up the CMU blocks and scaffolding in preparation for the exterior stairwell wall.

South By Southwest

Taken from our backyard, showing some of the installed windows in the lower level as well as the master deck and balcony. This side of the house faces south by southwest.

Casement

Our favorite casement window is located in the most private bedroom in the lower level of the house. A majority of the windows are fixed, this being one of the handful of exceptions which are operable.

Blocks

We're off to a slow start in September due to delays from the masons. They already dropped off about half of the required polished CMU blocks that will be used on the exterior stairwell walls.
